High-tide flooding in Cu Lao Dung

Last week, from the evening of 25th to 28th October 2011, many canal dykes have been broken during the high-tide flooding in Cu Lao Dung, Tran De and Vinh Chau districts. This was estimated to be the highest tide ever, with the flood peak measured at Dai Ngai (Cu Lao Dung) up to +2.14 m and at Tran De up to +2.36 m, on 27th October. Forecast of the provincial Meteriology Center has warned that there will be 4 more high-tide peaks in November and December.

In Cu Lao Dung, about 162 canal dyke sections of 8 communes with total length of 886 m have been broken and more than 168 sections have been overflowed with total length of 17163 m. More than 2000 ha of sugarcanes have been flooded. Mr. Dang Quoc Chi - Vice head of Agricultural division said: "Here, water come up very quickly, but drained out very slowly. Therefore, the place is often flooded deeply and prolongedly, affecting local people's farming."
