A.Q ;)

Hôm qua, chúng tôi quyết định tự thưởng cho mình một buổi tối ăn chơi ra trò.

Ban đầu chúng tôi định khiêm tốn đi sàn nhảy ở khách sạn Ngọc Thu. Nhưng rất tiếc, khi đến khách sạn Ngọc Thu thì nhân viên ở đó thông báo là sàn nhảy đã đóng cửa, và “mời anh chị sang bên A.Q”. Vậy là không còn cách nào khác, chúng tôi đành phải sang A.Q.

A.Q là tên gọi tắt của Ánh Quang, một sàn nhảy có thể nói vào loại bậc nhất ở Sóc Trăng.

Chúng tôi rất hào hứng vì thật sự khá là tò mò muốn biết thế nào là A.Q?!

Chúng tôi bước vào A.Q lúc 9g tối. Và chúng tôi là những vị khách đầu tiên của buổi tối hôm đó. Ngay khi chúng tôi bước vào, nhạc bắt đầu được hai anh chàng DJ đứng trên sân khấu bật lên và màn hình to trên sân khấu bắt đầu chạy những hàng chữ điện tử sáng trưng và màu mè, thông báo những sự kiện lớn sắp diễn ra. Ở góc xa hai bên sàn nhảy, có hai màn hình tivi, mở kênh HBO. Hình như là bộ phim nói về Mike Tyson. Cũng may là tôi có thể xem tivi vì thực sự tôi không thích nhìn lên màn hình to trên sân khấu.

Tiếng nhạc được bật to đến mức tôi cảm nhận được tim mình cũng nhảy lên mỗi khi có tiếng trống.Chúng tôi không còn nghe thấy tiếng mình nói nữa. Mỗi khi cần trao đổi gì là phải ghé sát tai nói với có thể nghe thấy được.

Sàn nhảy cũng không quá rộng với dàn đèn nhấp nháy liên tục và thỉnh thoảng lóe lên như ánh sáng tia chớp khi có giông. Và thi thoảng, từ đâu đó, làn khói sương phun ra phía giữa sàn nhảy. Trong ánh sáng này, nếu bạn mặc áo sáng màu, ví dụ: màu trắng, màu vàng tươi hoặc màu xanh da trời, bạn sẽ rất nổi bật. Có lẽ chính vì vậy, những anh chàng phục vụ ở sàn nhảy mặc áo sơ mi trắng, cắm thùng trong khá bảnh bao.

Ngoài 3 chúng tôi ra thì còn có những ai? Những cô gái xinh đẹp cao ráo diện những bộ váy ngắn, trông hấp dẫn. Các cô gái bắt đầu nhảy theo điệu nhạc ở các bàn xung quanh chúng tôi. Một số cô thì đứng thành hình vòng tròn trên sàn và nhảy. Gần ngay đó là những anh chàng diện đồ tối màu, tay chắp sau lưng, chân rung rung theo điệu nhạc. Tôi đoán họ là nhân viên an ninh. Những anh chàng có khuôn mặt không biểu cảm. Nếu làm phép tính thì có thể thấy, số nhân viên ở đây gấp 10 lần 3. Thật là áp đảo!

Đến 9g30, chúng tôi không còn là những vị khách đầu tiên nữa. Bắt đầu lác đác những vị khách thanh niên trẻ trung bước vào. Có lẽ vì hôm qua không phải ngày cuối tuần nên sàn nhảy không đông. Nửa tiếng sau thì có thể thấy có khoảng 4-5 bàn đã có khách.

Chúng tôi bắt đầu cười bản thân mình vì khi nhìn xuống chân, chúng tôi toàn đi dép lê, dép xỏ ngón, có lẽ không hợp thời với khung cảnh ở đây lắm. Chúng tôi nói đùa, nếu có lên sàn nhảy nhớ giữ dép cẩn thận, đừng để giống như cô bé lọ lem. Chị Dương bắt đầu nhảy. Chị Dương rất thích nhảy mà. Nhưng tại vì trên sàn nhảy không có ai nên chị Dương không lên đó nhảy. Còn anh Dũng thì có lẽ không vui lắm vì sự có mặt của hai chị em tôi làm cho các cô gái xinh đẹp không đến gần anh ấy. Chị Dương và tôi quyết định, nếu lần sau có đến đây, chị em chúng tôi sẽ không làm phiền các anh em. Đồ uống chúng tôi gọi là bia và Coca. Giá đồ uống ở đây gấp 3-4 lần ngoài chợ. Cũng dễ hiểu vì bạn phải trả phí phục vụ và tiền điện (âm thanh và ánh sáng).

10g: chúng tôi không thể chịu đựng thêm cường độ âm thanh và ánh sáng ở đây nữa. Chúng tôi quyết định kết thúc tối ăn chơi ở đây. Có lẽ tai, mắt và đầu của tôi sẽ phải mất vài ngày để trở về trạng thái bình thường. Nhưng dù sao, chúng tôi cũng đã có thời gian vui vẻ ở A.Q. Cả 3 chúng tôi đều ra về với nụ cười tươi rói trên môi.

Rất tiếc là chúng tôi không thể chụp ảnh khung cảnh vì nếu chụp ảnh, có lẽ chúng tôi sẽ không bao giờ còn nhìn thấy cái máy ảnh nữa. Bạn còn nhớ mấy anh chàng an ninh chứ?!   Co-Management in the coastal Village of Au Tho B, Vietnam

  Au Tho B village is located on the coast of Soc Trang Province in the Mekong Delta. The mainly poor people from ethnic minorities rely on the collection of natural resources from the mangrove forests for their livelihood, such as goby fry, clams, fish, crabs and snails as well as wood from the forest. For the poorest parts of the population, aquatic resources from the mangroves are the main source of income. With the implementation of co-management, former open access resources are now sustainably used. Resource users and local authorities negotiated together how to manage the mangrove forest and its associated aquatic food resources in such a way that the coastal protection function of the mangroves can be maintained and enhanced and at the same time local livelihoods can be improved.

"Hard Rain is a two-part independent production on climate change and human development in Asia and the Pacific. The films focus on how people, especially vulnerable communities on coasts and plains are living with climate risks and already adapting. Shot in Kiribati, India, the Philippines and Viet Nam, the films bring in peoples perspectives from the ground as well as those of policy makers. Hard Rain 2 was filmed in the Philippines and Viet Nam. For Soc Trang it shows the importance of mangroves and how co-management contributes to livelihood improvement and climate change adaptation.

What can help and where are opportunities to move forward? What are the policy dilemmas that remain? The spirit of the film is to be as solution oriented despite manifold challenges both current and future."

Award ceremony for the 2011 drawing competition on "Forests" & handing over of Mangroves manual for teachers

Our boss' favorite drawing which describes the interconnectedness of sea, mud flat, land, mangrove forest, dyke, residental areas...

On 23rd October 2011, the award ceremony for the drawing competition 2011 took place at the conference hall of the Forest Protection Sub-department, Soc Trang province. This is the 4th year that the GIZ CZM project together with the Departmentof Education and Training (DoET) organized the drawing competition for students. The theme of this year’s competition was “Forests”, which is part of the United Nation’s Year of the Forest 2011. Fifteen drawingswere selected out of more than 10,000 submissions of students fromprimary schools in Tran De, Cu Lao Dung and Vinh Chau, the three coastal districts of Soc Trang province. Out of these 15 awarded drawings, the top 5 will be published in a 2012 calendar together with other selected drawings from Bac Lieu and Kien Giang provinces.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), DoET, the GIZ Project, SocTrang television and the students who won the drawing competition with their teachers and parents.

This event was further more the right occasion to hand over 1,600copies of the new “Mangroves Manual for junior high and high school teachers” to a representative of DoET. This manual was developed to aidteachers in educating their students about the importance of mangrove forests. These manuals will be useful materials for teachers and thus, through their lectures, the students will understand more about the roles and benefits of mangrove forests and the importance of their protection.

Shuttlecock

Our plan for sport initially was volleyball. We even have bought already ball and net. However, so far, shuttlecock is what we are really playing nearly everyday after work. It is quite fun. Good that we can do some activity together which make us sweat.

Yesterday (19.10), when talking on the phone near the stair, AD discovered that there was a big gecko on the wall, about 30 cm long or so. Wow, yeah, it was the biggest gecko I've ever seen! Our boss said in Cambodia, he even saw bigger ones, and this kind of gecko they have red dots on their skin.

Our boss was happily filming us, testing the new project's camera. ;)

Trang's birthday

Trang is the child of the restaurant owner near Nhung's room. Nhung teaches English for the kids there and they like her very much. She was invited on the little girl's birthday. This afternoon, we just passed by there quickly for her to give the kid birthday present, taking some photos and then back to office again.

Jazz and Casablanca

After two day - karaoke (at Bui Vien karaoke village on Thursday and Huong Cat on Saturday), we  were invited at our boss' home for "Good music" as compensation ;) on Sunday afternoon. The first two CDs were a little bit weird for me as they were somehow like sounds of broken glass, metal instruments, acting in ghost movie, i would say... Then, we had some jazz, even some jazz version of Trịnh Công Sơn's music, performed by the famous saxophonist Trần Mạnh Tuấn. One of the later song was from the classic movie Casablanca. Thus, we had a chance to watch it again.

Closing ceremony of the weaving training

On 12 October 2011, the closing ceremony of the weaving craft training was taken place at the People Committee of An Thanh 3 commune in Cu Lao Dung. Beside many representatives of trainees and Nhu Y cooperative, there was also participation of representatives from local authorities, border post, Women Union, DARD, Sub-DECAFIREF and GIZ Soc Trang project. 

Goal of this craft weaving training is to create jobs for local people to do in their spare time, helping stabilizing their lives as well as reducing exploitation of aquatic resources. Our project has supported in total 180 trainees, most of them are women, in 2 periods of time (30 days each, June/July and August/September).

Saying their opinions, people showed their interest, being happy with getting more income. We all hope that this model can be expanded into other places in Cu Lao Dung, and to other districts like Tran De and Vinh Chau. One important concern raised is the low payment (only 10,000 - 15,000 VND per each piece of product), it would be better if the cooperative can improve this. The chairman of Nhu Y cooperative answered that he always want to pay more, however, it was not him who can decide but the big company. Anyway, he will try to negotiate with them...
