Soc Trang team: Co-management sub-group organisation

As agreement at the 12th negotiation meeting on 19^th of June, the final draft regulation was presented to the co-management members on 26th of June (2 sub-group meetings on the same day) and continued on 3rd (sub-group 2) and 4th (sub-group 1) of July for discussion. At this time, 20 people of the Red Team were also nominated (10 from each sub-group). The draft regulation was well approved.

Then, the meeting with the start-up group on 10th of July at the People’s Committee of An Thanh Nam commune aimed to discuss about preparation for the signing ceremony of the co-management group. However, since there were so many more new people would like to join the co-management group (as observed at the two meetings on 3rd and 4th of July), it was agreed to spend some time for reorganisation of the group and conducting registration for new members.

On 17th and 18th of July, we organised co-management registration for new members as well as confirmation of personal information for all members at the 2 sub-groups in Vo Thanh Van village. The results of this registration showed that there were more than 241 registered households with total 495 people! There was a big growth since the formation of the Vo Thanh Van village co-management group in July 2012 (only 78 households in 2 sub-groups).

Therefore, at the start-up group meeting on 24th of July at the People’s Committee of An Thanh Nam commune, it was agreed that the co-management group in Vo Thanh Van village will be divided into 6 sub-groups. And for the next 3 weeks, there would be sub-group meetings (2 sub-groups meetings/week on Wednesday and Thursday) to organise the sub-groups (choosing sub-group leaders, recording of sub-group members) and to inform the sub-group members on co-management, zonation and key points of the draft regulation.

Number of people in the Red Team has increased to 23 (3 new sub-group leaders as the other 3 sub-group leaders have already been in the Red Team before).

In total, we have 249 recorded households with 492 members. In addition, there are 48 unknown people, who registered before but did not show up at the sub-group meetings and were not recognised by the participants. At the moment, we closed the recorded list. For these unknown people, we will try to identify them at the next start-up group meeting and may add them later.
