The sweet soup shop

Sweet soup/sweet gruel or chè is a popular dessert in Vietnam, often cooked from nuts, beans, fruits, jelly and served with coconut cream.

"Chè Ngọc Trinh" is my favorite sweet soup shop in Soc Trang. Located in a dark corner at the conjunction of Lê Lợi street and a narrow road, it is just a sidewalk foodcart with about 8 - 10 small plastic tables. The sweet shop opens only in the evening. In daytime, right at that place is a motorbike repair shop. Thus, it's amazing to see things changing over a day, as if there was some miracle.

The foodcart serves various kinds of "chè", among them, i like "chè bưởi" the most, which is made from pomelo peel, mung beans and one ball of durian ice cream.

Not all of my friends like "chè". So, most of the time, i'm there alone, sitting on a little plastic chair, eating "chè bưởi" in open air, twilight atmosphere with mosquitoes flying around...
