Award ceremony for the 2011 drawing competition on "Forests" & handing over of Mangroves manual for teachers



Our boss' favorite drawing which describes the interconnectedness of sea, mud flat, land, mangrove forest, dyke, residental areas...

On 23rd October 2011, the award ceremony for the drawing competition 2011 took place at the conference hall of the Forest Protection Sub-department, Soc Trang province. This is the 4th year that the GIZ CZM project together with the Departmentof Education and Training (DoET) organized the drawing competition for students. The theme of this year’s competition was “Forests”, which is part of the United Nation’s Year of the Forest 2011. Fifteen drawingswere selected out of more than 10,000 submissions of students fromprimary schools in Tran De, Cu Lao Dung and Vinh Chau, the three coastal districts of Soc Trang province. Out of these 15 awarded drawings, the top 5 will be published in a 2012 calendar together with other selected drawings from Bac Lieu and Kien Giang provinces.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), DoET, the GIZ Project, SocTrang television and the students who won the drawing competition with their teachers and parents.

This event was further more the right occasion to hand over 1,600copies of the new “Mangroves Manual for junior high and high school teachers” to a representative of DoET. This manual was developed to aidteachers in educating their students about the importance of mangrove forests. These manuals will be useful materials for teachers and thus, through their lectures, the students will understand more about the roles and benefits of mangrove forests and the importance of their protection.
