The 2-day training workshop introducing IDRISI software was organized by GIZ Bac Lieu on 23-24 August, 2011. Lecturer was Dr. Stefan Alfred Groenewold from Dragon Institute for Climate Change Research, College for Environment & Natural Resources, Can Tho University. Participants were staff from Bac Lieu Sub-department of Forest Protection, GIZ Bac Lieu and GIZ Soc Trang.

The training gave a general introduction on remote sensing, Google Earth and IDRISI, the latest and very helpful software for analyzing geographic and remotely sensed data. Exercises were practiced on fundamental functions of IDRISI, such as importing, displaying and processing satellite images for different requirements. Some websites where we can download free global satellite images were also introduced (GLOVIS, ESA…) especially the WISDOM Vietnamese-German Initiative: http://www.wisdom.caf.dlr.de

Follow-up workshop will be organized around November 2011 in Can Tho University, focusing more on practical application, using own GIZ provincial projects’ satellite images. All materials from the training workshop were put in Drive DATA F - folder IDRISI of Archive PC for internal sharing.
