Weaving craft class in Cu Lao Dung
"While the fisheries resources are at risk of depletion, job creation for fishers mainly living on fishery capture is an urgent requirement.
Presently the model of job training in “weaving craft” for communities brings high efficiency and practical significance because it is not too difficulty to earn money with this craft that do not require qualifications, ability and age, etc.
To do this, the people need to attend a craft training course (about 15 days) that is directly taught by people having workmanship skills and experience throughout the learning process.
In making use of materials that are simple and very close to the living of the Vietnamese people such as: water hyacinth, rush, buong (palmae) leaves, rattan, etc., the skillful hands of the craftsmen make the products that not only increases the beauty from the nature for serving the life of the Vietnamese people but also for exporting to many countries around the world. These materials also positively contribute to the environmental protection because they are easily decomposed in a very short period of time." (CZM 037)

Group photo at the end |
The 2-day training workshop introducing IDRISI software was organized by GIZ Bac Lieu on 23-24 August, 2011. Lecturer was Dr. Stefan Alfred Groenewold from Dragon Institute for Climate Change Research, College for Environment & Natural Resources, Can Tho University. Participants were staff from Bac Lieu Sub-department of Forest Protection, GIZ Bac Lieu and GIZ Soc Trang.
The training gave a general introduction on remote sensing, Google Earth and IDRISI, the latest and very helpful software for analyzing geographic and remotely sensed data. Exercises were practiced on fundamental functions of IDRISI, such as importing, displaying and processing satellite images for different requirements. Some websites where we can download free global satellite images were also introduced (GLOVIS, ESA…) especially the WISDOM Vietnamese-German Initiative: http://www.wisdom.caf.dlr.de
Follow-up workshop will be organized around November 2011 in Can Tho University, focusing more on practical application, using own GIZ provincial projects’ satellite images.
All materials from the training workshop were put in Drive DATA F - folder IDRISI of Archive PC for internal sharing.
